Pastel elevation of the stacked container housing above a meadow

Inspired by Los Angeles’ port identity, this project reimagines affordable housing using recycled shipping containers. Their inherent modularity informs a vertical, high-density shared residence. It transforms an underused single-family lot into a new typology, tackling the city’s housing crisis by redefining density and fostering community through shared spaces within a compact footprint.

The design employs a 4-foot module derived from standard container sizes. Like assembling blocks, functional units are configured using the same modular logic. This creates a vertical community network where private circulation, lush greenery and shared spaces are interwoven — a porous, vibrant collective living environment built efficiently on a shared grid.
