Timber model of the Guanyin Pavilion in a dark room, figures moving behind it

This project involved the research and reconstruction of the Guanyin Pavilion at Dule Temple, a significant example of Liao Dynasty architecture. Through collaborative work, we created a detailed digital model of its timber frame, focusing on the complex dougong bracket system and the distinctive chazhuzao construction technique for structural analysis.

The process culminated in the fabrication of a large-scale physical model. This hands-on exploration deepens our understanding of ancient Chinese ‘damuzuo’ principles. The project was further developed into an educational exhibition, communicating the ingenuity and logic of this traditional structural system to a wider audience.
