Vers la Mer
A New Type of Environmental Infrastructure

Shenzhen Bay Ecological Facility is situated adjacent to the Futian Mangrove Reserve. Challenging conventional museum typologies and anthropocentric attitudes, the design reimagines exhibition spaces through a critical lens inspired by reflections on animal ethics.
It proposes a layered, ramp-connected frame placed directly within the intertidal zone, allowing mangrove flora and fauna to inhabit and flow across its structure according to natural tidal gradients. This infrastructure is designed to be submerged by tides or to serve as an urban pocket park, embodying both a resilience strategy and a manifesto. It critiques symbolic preservation while exploring a new paradigm for ecological exhibition — one that integrates rather than isolates.

Influenced by James Corner’s cartography, this mapping constructs a narrative trajectory — tracking a “human” arrival through shifting vision, speed and perception.

Terraced layers and a spiraling green ramp trace the journey from urbanity to ocean, embodying the passage from human domain to natural world.
